40TH NATIONAL SESSION OF ALL INDIA TRADE UNION CONGRESS (AITUC):

AIBEA CIRCULAR NO. 26/157/2012/44  dated 13-11-12:
Dear Comrades,
40TH NATIONAL SESSION OF ALL INDIA TRADE UNION CONGRESS
AT MUMBAI FROM 27TH TO 30TH NOVEMBER, 2012
AIBEA WISHES THE CONFERENCE ALL SUCCESS

All of us are aware that AITUC is the first national trade union centre in our country having been founded on 31-10-1920. Lal Lajpat Rai was the founder President. Many prominent leaders of our national movement have been associated with AITUC. The history of AITUC and its struggles represents not only the struggles against the exploitation of working class and for securing labour rights but also inter-twined with the freedom struggle in our country.

In 1945 when the World Federation of Trade Unions was formed, AITUC played a leading role and was a founding member of the WFTU. Since then it has been playing an effective role in the international trade union movement also.

In the post-independence era, working class has suffered set back and trade unions have been divided on political lines. This has weakened the bargaining power of the trade unions and has only benefitted the employers’ class. In the recent years, due to the impact of the globalization and liberalisation policies, where profit is overtaking the welfare of the workers, where barbaric exploitation of the working masses has become the avowed policy of the employers, where the Government has either become a mute spectator or a conscious abettor, unity of the trade union movement and united struggles have become the top most priority. True to these needs, AITUC has been playing a cruising and navigating role to make these objectives possible. Today AITUC has become the harbinger of unity and united struggles and avenger against offensives of the employers. AITUC’s role in bringing all the central trade unions together and in initiating united struggles is highly praise-worthy and commendable.

To us in the AIBEA, AITUC has been a friend, philosopher and guide. Right from our inception in 1946, AIBEA has received all-out support and help from AITUC in all our struggles and endeavors. In all our difficult times, AITUC has extended its solidarity and fraternity. Inside and outside the Parliament, AITUC has stood like a rock with the cause of AIBEA and bank employees.

In fact, our historical records show that when AIBEA was founded in 1946, a resolution was adopted by our founding fathers that AIBEA be affiliated with AITUC. Such has been our closeness, and over the years, this closeness has further grown.

The 40th Session, the national Conference of AITUC is taking place in Mumbai from 27th to 30th November, 2012. The conference assumes significance when the entire trade union movement is waging a bitter struggle against the Government’s anti-people, anti-labour, neo-liberal economic policies. The conference is being held in the backdrop of the united call for the first ever 48 hours continuous general strike on 20th and 21st February, 2013.

AITUC has invited AIBEA to attend their Conference and all the Office Bearers of AIBEA will be participating in the Conference as Special Delegates.

AITUC has entered the last decade before its centenary. We extend our solidarity with AITUC. We draw inspiration from AITUC. We seek the continued support of AITUC. We wish the 40th Session a grand success.

With greetings,
Yours Comradely,
