Com. R.D.Trivedi passes away

We deeply regret to inform our units and members about the sad demise of Com. R.D.Trivedi, President of Gujarat Bank Workers Union and former Vice President / Joint Secretary of AIBEA, early this morning in Rajkot.

Com. R.D  as he was affectionately and popularly known to the Bank Employees, was born on 20th April, 1935.  After graduation in Commerce & Law, Com. R.D. Trivedi joined Bank of Baroda in Rajkot in 1959 as a clerk.  He came under the influence of the Veteran Leader of our movement in Gujarat Com. J.M.Vyas who had founded Saurashtra Bank Employees Union and became an active trade union worker.

He became the General Secretary of our State Organisation in 1962 at such a young age within three years of his joining the Bank. He established himself as an unchallengeable leader by his sheer dedication and hard work.  He toured extensively and established very close contacts with the employees of all the Banks.  He built up a strong trade union movement in Bank of Baroda and become the All India General Secretary in 1971. He also played an important role in building our organisation in Dena Bank.

During the struggle for 1st Bipartite Settlement, he conducted the agitations very effectively and successfully launched the boycott of clearing house in Rajkot.  He led a prolonged struggle for 90 days in Bank of Baroda in 1972-73 and secured consultative status for their All India Co-ordination Committee.

Due to his contributions to our movement, in 1976 Amritsar Conference of AIBEA, Com. R.D.Trivedi was elected as Assistant Secretary of AIBEA and in 2004  Hyderabad Conference he became the Vice President of AIBEA.  As General Secretary of Gujarat Bank Workers Union for nearly 5 decades, he strode the organization as the Chief Marshal and built up Gujarat Bank Workers Union as a strong, militant and leading contingent of AIBEA.  In the recent conference of Gujarat Bank Workers Union, he opted to become its President due to his ill-health.

One cannot but wonder at the unique leadership qualities of Com.R.D. Trivedi.  He was an able organizer, natural fighter for the cause of bank employees, highly analytical and forthright in his observations.  He greatly inspired the bank employees in that part of our country.

He was very closely associated with our giant leaders Com. Prabhat Kar,  Com. H.L. Parvana, Com. D.P. Chadha, Com. Tarakeswar Chakraborti, Com. K.K. Mundul and many other stalwart leaders.

He passed away peacefully in his sleep this early morning. Com. R.D. Trivedi had made an indelible mark in our movement by his lifelong contributions and his void is difficult to fill up.

We convey our sincere condolences to his family and to all our members in Gujarat Bank Workers Union as well as in Bank of Baroda fraternity.

AIBEA dips its banner in memory of this valiant fighter and pays its respectful homage.
