Call for united struggle by trade unions..

Call for united struggle by trade unions :
CHENNAI, July 3, 2011:

There will be a wave of action: Gurudas Dasgupta

All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) general secretary Gurudas Dasgupta on Saturday said the leaders of the trade union had understood the truth that they could not fight governments and corporate giants without unity.
Addressing a state-level convention organised by all trade unions here, he said united struggle by the trade unions was the “silver lining” at a time the Congress-led UPA government was launching one attack after another on the people through its neo-liberalisation policies. “Let us not undermine the unity among the trade union brought about in the country by the workers.”
Mr Dasgupta said the Central government was “thoroughly exposed” and there was “no governance” at all in the country. Alleging that besides inflation and corruption, there were violation of labour laws and disparities in wages, he said the trade union movement should go forward and a one-day strike would not be enough.
“There is going to be wave of action. The more you are going to fight, the better will be your position to change the policy of the government,” he said, adding united struggle is a “real alternative to bourgeois exploitation.”
Working People Trade Union Council leader R. Kuchelar said lack of unity among the trade union leaders was ailing the trade union movement and recalled how the united struggle of the workers of Simpson in the 1960s forced the then DMK government to listen to workers. HMS leader Thampan Thomas said just 200 people were enjoying 10 per cent of the total GDP of the country and it was the responsibility of the trade unions to fight corruption.

CITU leader A.K. Padmanabhan, CPI(M) Legislature party leader A. Soundararajan and AITUC leader S.S.Thiyagarajan were among those who spoke.
