PRESS RELEASE :- 23-2-2011, N.DELHI
By C.H. VENKATACHALAM, GENERAL SECRETARY, AIBEA
Massive Morcha to Parliament on 23-2-2011 – GRAND SUCCESS
The programme of Morcha to Parliament today by lacs of workers at the united call of Central Trade Unions and various sector-wise independent trade union federations has been a massive success registering their strong protest against the anti-people, anti-labour policies of the Government of India. The continued policies of liberalization and free-market economy has aggravated the already suffering living conditions of the working masses. The alarming, unabated, unprecedented, uncontrolled price rise of all basic necessities and essential food commodities has worsened the plight of the people at large. The Government is a total failure in taking any perceptible and effective steps to bring down prices and control the high inflation.
In this background the mass protest was on the following issues of the trade unions:
v Alarming price rise
v Huge job losses
v Large scale Disinvestments in public Sector
v Rampant violation of labour laws
v Lack of adequate protection to unorganized workers
In a country when the Government is spending lacs and cores of rupees on bail out packages for the capitalists, in a system where in one of the recent scams i.e. 2-G spectrum case, it is reported that the Government has lost revenue of Rs. 176,000 crores, it is ridiculous and insulting that the Government pleads lack of resources for benefiting the workers, especially the unorganized workers. On the other the public sector is being sold to the capitalists.
Hence fighting against these retrograded economic policies has become the priority of the trade unions and AIBEA fully supports the cause.
BANKING SECTOR: In the banking industry too, we find the same approach. The attempt is to allow entry of corporate and big business in the banking sector. The attempt is allow private sector to cater to the normal banking needs of the masses. The attempt is to allow more private and foreign capital in the Banks. The attempt is to merge the public sector banks. The attempt is to privatise the banking jobs by outsourcing the perennial banking jobs in the name of business correspondents. Anti-worker recommendations of Khandelwal Committee are sought to be foisted somehow or the other. Instead of adequate recruitments and revival of BSRBs, the jobs are being outsourced.
Government is openly supporting and encouraging the private sector banking in India. The recent awarding of high Republic Day Awards to people representing private banks ignoring the sterling contribution of public sector banks and reputed bankers indicates the glaring attitude of the Government.
Hence AIBEA is proud to take part in this Parliament Morcha. About 25,000 bank employees belong to All India Bank Employees Association and All India Ban k officers Association have taken part in today’s protest morcha from all over the country,
We congratulate the bank employees for their wonderful display of militancy and massive response to the programme.
ALL INDIA STRIKE:
AIBEA and AIBOA will be meeting shortly in their Office Bearers meeting and decide further intensified programmes including All India Strike to save the public sector banking, to save jobs in banking sector and to fight against the unwanted banking reforms..
