It was on this day in 1969 that the major private Banks were nationalised by the Government. It became and even today remains, a major water-shed decision in the socio-political and economic events of our country. It heralded the beginning of the transformation of class banking to mass banking.
From the 13th Conference of AIBEA held in Trivandrum, Kerala in 1964, AIBEA launched intense struggles under the visionary leadership of Com. Prabhat Kar and Com. Parvana. Those struggles created political compulsions and finally led to nationalisation of 14 major Banks on 19th July, 1969.
When we celebrate the Bank Nationalisation Day, let us resolve to intensify our campaign.
Let us pledge to continue our struggle in defence of public sector banking.
Let us work for the success of public sector Banks.
Let us stoutly say : People’s money for people’s welfare; National savings for national development and not for private corporate loot and plunder.
Banking for empowerment of masses and not for embezzlement by the corporates.
Let us unfold the demand : Right to banking should be made a fundamental right.
Nationalisation Greetings to all our members
