      ALL INDIA BANK EMPLOYEES' ASSOCIATION
CIRCULAR LETTER NO: 26/201/ 2012/29                                                                        27TH May, 2012
TO ALL OFFICE BEARERS, STATE FEDERATIONS AND
ALL INDIA BANKWISE ORGANISATIONS :
Dear Comrades,
-     Protest against steep increase in petrol price
-     Hold demonstrations on 30th or 31st May 2012
Our units are aware that immediately after the Budget Session of the Parliament was concluded, the Government has announced its decision to hike petrol price.  While the price of petrol has been jacked up by the Government periodically in the recent years, this time the hike is very steep and unprecedented.  Cost of petrol has been increased by about 10%.

All of us know that this hike will affect all sections of the people including the salaried middle class in transportation expenses besides resulting in general price rise of all commodities.  Adding fuel to fire, the Government is contemplating to increase the price of diesel, cooking gas and kerosene which will further hit the daily lives of the common people and aggravating the price line.  Already the Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (1960 = 100 series) is nearing 4600 points – an all-time high so far.

There are expert opinions that the reasons being given by the Government for such repeated hike in petrol price are illogical as the oil companies continue to earn huge profits year after year.  Unmindfully and regrettably, the Government is deliberately adding to the burden of the common masses, working people and salaried class.
In a meeting of all the Central Trade Unions (BMS/INTUC/AITUC/HMS/CITU/AIUTUC/ AICCTU/UTUC /TUCC /LPF/SEWA)  held on 26th May 2012 in Delhi, a call has been given by them to observe protest demonstrations on 30th or 31st May 2012.  We call upon all our units to join these programmes locally or hold demonstrations in their centres either on our own or jointly with other Bank Unions/units of UFBU as may be feasible.   The Press Release of the Central Trade Unions is furnished herein.
ALL OUR UNITS  TO SEND FAX  TO HON. PRIME MINISTER AS UNDER:  FAX NO.  011-23019545 OR   23016857

Press Release:                                                                             26-5-201
Trade Unions oppose petrol price hike by protest rallies on 30 and 31-5-2012
All the central Trade unions of the country express deepest concern at the reckless decision of the Government to increase the price of petrol more than Rs. 7 per litre, unprecedented dose of increase so far, at a time when the economy is in deep crisis.  Food inflation has again crossed double-digit when slowdown in the economy is unabated, all round economic crisis has overtaken the country.
When it was urgently necessary to take effective steps to curb the criticality of the economic crisis, Government has moved in the reverse way perpetuating the crisis and pushing the people, particularly the working masses into intolerable hardships.
Trade Unions call for roll-back of the increase in petroleum prices, desist from increasing the price of diesel, cooking gas and kerosene.
It is the economic policy of the Government that has put the country in peril, jeopardizing the livelihood of common masses.
Central Trade Unions call upon the working masses to register their angry protest on 30th and 31st May, 2012 taking to effective form of agitation.
Trade unions call upon the working masses to prepare for larger actions.
Central Trade Unions further decided to hold the next meeting on 11th July, 2012 to finalise the future programmes of action
